The Old Town of Manassas has an unwelcome new arrival.
What exactly is KK’s Temptations? What does that phrase “& more” promise? The favored euphemism for a “porn shop” these days is “adult store.” From its front door, we know that KK’s Temptations is an “adult store.”
One has to be at least 18 just to go through the front door.
Because KK’s Temptations is an “adult store,” that is, a porn shop, the residents do not want it. So we have had a flurry of news stories. Here are some of them.
- In Manassas pursues rules for sexually oriented businesses, the Washington Post explores the Manassas City Council’s efforts to deal with the matter.
- After reporting Del. Jackson Miller’s alarm at the prospect of a porn shop in Old Town(Adult store to open in Old Town Manassas), in an incoherent editorial, InsideNoVA.com tells us Editorial: KK’s is OK.
- To its credit, in Adult-themed store causes controversy in Manassas, the Gainesville Times at least mentions the following:
While the printing on the green door at the store lists KK’s Temptations in a swooping, swirling font with a pink circle around its “K” logo, it does mention that there are “Adult DVD’s [sic], Lotions, Lingerie & more” inside. A sentence underneath the above print does warn passer-bys: “No one under 18 permitted.”
Unfortunately, the news media has had little to say about what KK’s Temptations actually sells. Nope. Instead, we hear an euphemism. We hear KK’s Temptations is OK; it is just a store for “adults.”
Because we want Old Town to stay family friendly, many people think a porn shop does not belong in Old Town. That is true even when the owner, Kimberly Skokan, says it would be an “upscale” porn shop. We know an oxymoron when we hear one. So yesterday we held a demonstration at City Hall. In Residents rally against ‘porn’ in Old Town, InsideNoVA.com provides its report.
We held the demonstration at City Hall. That was both convenient to the City Council, and it kept the demonstration from interfering with the Manassas Fall Jubilee. What follows are some pictures and comments.
When I looked at the emblem on City Hall, I had to wonder if this area had ever seen a demonstration against porn.

When Councilman Marc Aveni spoke, he noted one way KK's Temptations had responded to the controversy; they had removed pornographic DVD's from their website.
