The following is an excerpt from a Chinese textbook on American history.

(circa 2039)

Following the 2020 election, the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spiked in America, and the American government strengthened its economic lockdown to fight the virus. Nevertheless, the virus continued to spread, and the American news media demanded that the new president do something.

Pitying the conditions of the citizens of America, the government of China offered a solution, the new China-made cavomatic. 

China’s cavomatic proposal was designed to solve several problems.

• Energy efficient housing. Underground housing is energy-efficient and cheap. The cavomatic quickly digs tunnels and lines those tunnels with cement and insulation.
• Food storage. The cavomatic provides the perfect means of digging out root cellers for the storage of potatoes and other vegetables. These cellers were intended to provide Americans the sustenance they would need while they socially distanced until the virus died out.
• Water storage. The cavomatic builds waterproof-lined water cisterns perfectly and quickly. That includes building small canals designed to collect rainwater.

To save its population, the American government exercised emergency powers, seizing huge swaths of land and selling it to China in return for tens of thousands of cavomatics, cavomatic parts, and millions of pounds of cement, insulation, and waterproof liners.

Unfortunately, in spite of the massive help China gave them (including tens of thousands of contractors to operate the cavomatics), American capitalists proved themselves too inept to organize the massive effort required to move the American population into their new cavomatic homes, lovingly built in America’s majestic Rocky Mountains and verdant Appalachian Highland. The plan to disperse the population into cavomatic housing finally collapsed when bloodthirsty reactionaries staged an insurrection. Therefore, tens of millions died from the virus and starvation.

Finally, in the year 2025, the American president requested China’s assistance, and the Chinese military began vaccinating remaining survivors with its new vaccine. Since then America has been expertly governed by the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Americans have expressed their gratefulness for the hundred of millions of Chinese people who have moved from China to help them govern and rebuild the country. That includes reviving abandoned farms and factories.
