One year ago, we had no idea what 2020 would hold. We sure found out! The world is still reeling from the death count caused by COVID-19! Worldometers ( estimates that 1,830,979 people died during 2020 because of the Chinese virus. That’s a humongous number!

In spite of COVID, what we seriously overlook is that abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide last year! We mourn the nearly 2 million who died across the globe from COVID, but tend to ho-hum the 42,655,372 people who died from abortions in 2020! Those 42+ million persons had not been born when they died, so we don’t mourn their passing. What an indictment against us!

COVID affects our everyday life! We have to wear masks that are sometimes suffocating; we must wash or disinfect our hands frequently; we stay six feet away from other people when we’re in a group or crowd; and we stay home as much as possible…COVID is a constant inconvenience to our everyday life that handwashing won’t eradicate!

By contrast, an unwanted pregnancy is an inconvenience easily disposed of by surgical or chemical intervention. Either a doctor or licensed nurse kills and removes the developing baby from the uterus using suction and a curette or else the mother takes strong medicine that induces contractions of the uterus to expel the baby they call a fetus to make it less human. The prospective mother becomes the abortive woman with no evidence that she just committed murder—she’s off scot-free as are the practitioners who caused the death!

A journalist tweeted angrily, using expletives against people who refuse to wear a mask—because his sister died from COVID. Though he cited no known contact from whom she contracted COVID, he generalized out of the anger normal to survivors after their loved one has died that she must have caught COVID from someone who refused to wear a mask.

He never mentioned or alluded to feeling equally angry about the babies aborted while his sister struggled for her life! Yet, their numbers bypass the number of persons who died from COVID. COVID isn’t always preventable; abortion is.

Though most victims of COVID recover, death from COVID can be the unwelcome outcome and ultimate cost of the disease. Abortion is death, also, the intentional outcome planned by abortionists who reap cold cash. Unless it’s a family member or close friend who has an abortion, we probably don’t even know where the abortion facility is located in our area. It’s easy to avoid thinking about it or taking any action to prevent abortion from continuing.

It is very important that we accept the responsibility of not just protecting ourselves, but others from contracting COVID by following the CDC precautions. But what are we doing to prevent abortion? How are we protecting young women who need support during their pregnancies?

Have you contacted your legislators at the state and national levels to voice your rejection of this barbaric, ungodly but legal procedure? Have you volunteered at a pro-life clinic to work with the young women who need support when they decide NOT to abort and instead want to keep their baby? Have you donated baby formula, food or hygiene products, clothing and blankets so that new moms are equipped immediately to care for their new infants?

Let’s put COVID and abortion into perspective. Each one is worthy of our concern. While the virus is troubling and certainly not something to take lightly, murder of an innocent baby surely is the ultimate in priority. Abortion happens all the time, but it shouldn’t! Abortion is part of our national culture, but it shouldn’t be!

Might it be that God has allowed COVID to plague the world so we wake up to what we’re doing to helpless babies who are living souls at conception? Have we accepted personal responsibility for ridding our nation of such an ugly blight on our society? Time and again God cited Israel’s sacrifice of their young children to the fires of Baal and other idols as a primary reason they were going into captivity:

“When you offer your gifts, when you cause your sons to pass through the fire, you are defiling yourselves with all your idols to this day” Ezekiel 20:31.

“For when they had slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered My sanctuary on the same day to profane it; and lo thus they did within My house” Ezekiel 23:39.

Israel did not listen to the prophets who spoke on God’s behalf to stop their evil practices. Sadly, Israel found herself a captive of Babylon and lost the glory of the nation. Only in 1978 did Israel regain her identity as a world power.

What is in store for America? It’s up to all of us to turn our nation around…to eradicate abortion! I hope it’s not too late. Please, someone, please, listen and act! Take God seriously!! He is watching!
