What is more symbolic of Western Civilization than the works of William Shakespeare? Not much.

Since we traditionally base our moral code on Biblical teachings, the Bible is more central to Western Civilization. However, Secularists eliminated the Bible from the curriculum long ago, long before we heard of the expression, “cancel culture.”
Why do the Secularists and other haters of Western Civilization want to eliminate Shakespeare’s works from the school curriculum? Why expand the cancelation of the Bible to all the literature that we associate with Western Civilization? That is because the literature of Western Civilization alludes to the Bible and its moral teachings.
Consider what Western Civilization encompasses.
What is the hated “Western Civilization?” It is a distinct culture — a way of thinking and producing that comes from the combination of the ancient Greco-Roman world, “barbarian” Germanic tribes (Goths, Vandals, Franks, etc.) and the worldview of the Israelites through the Judeo-Christian writings (the Bible). The amalgamation of these worldviews, nestled and nurtured among the competing nations of western Europe (extending from present-day Poland to Ireland) developed throughout the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and the Enlightenment.

Note the reference to the worldview of the Israelites through the Judeo-Christian writings (the Bible). Because the Bible is critical to Western Civilization, Secularists have been opposed to Western Civilization, and therefore Shakespeare, for some time. Here of late, however, the cancel crowd has come out into the open about its opposition to Shakespeare. So, we have a flurry of articles. Here is how The New York Post put it.
An increasing number of woke teachers are refusing to study the Bard — accusing his classic works of promoting “misogyny, racism, homophobia, classism, anti-Semitism, and misogynoir.”
A slew of English literature teachers told the School Library Journal (SLJ) how they were ditching the likes of “Hamlet,” “Macbeth” and “Romeo and Juliet” to instead “make room for modern, diverse, and inclusive voices.”
“Shakespeare was a tool used to ‘civilize’ Black and brown people in England’s empire,” insisted Shakespeare scholar Ayanna Thompson, a professor of English at Arizona State University.

How do we stop this nonsense? Well, Woke Teachers Now Trying to Cancel William Shakespeare (legalinsurrection.com) offers a defense of Shakespeare with clips Shakespeare great actors performing Shakespeare’s works and the observation that even The Washington Post thinks it is a dumb idea, Opinion | Don’t cancel Shakespeare – The Washington Post.
This article, Shakespeare is being canceled (hotair.com), makes the observation that who actually wrote Shakespeare’s works is something of a mystery. Here is more on that.

So, it is not clear who is being canceled. Some even think, based upon his sonnets, that Shakespeare was a homosexual. Since we know so little about Shakespeare, that is something of a stretch, but it should give the cancel crowd some reason to rethink their silliness.
Nevertheless, even the most irrefutable logic will not prevent Secularists and other haters of Western Civilization from trying to cancel Western Civilization from the school curriculum. There is actually only one solution. If parents want their children taught their children about Western Civilization — how our civilization came to be — then parents must choose teachers who appreciate the struggles of those who went before us and strove to build a civilization that honors our Creator. To pass our Christian beliefs onto to our children, we must choose teachers for our children who share our beliefs. That is why we must fight for School Choice. That is why we must put parents in charge of which schools receive the money used to educate children. Like as not, we probably also need to make certain our libraries don’t discriminate against Western Civilization too. It is a dumb idea to expect politicians to run anything and not be biased by who gives them campaign donations and special favors.
