We live in a secularized culture, so secularized that most people probably give little thought to it. The secularization of our lives is like the air we breath. Our secular culture seems so ordinary and omnipresent we take it for granted. But what is the significance of the secularization of our culture? When we do not even bother to think of God, we lack wisdom. We cannot make use of His wisdom, and we cannot do not what is right in His eyes.
Proverbs 8:12-21 New American Standard Bible
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And I find knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride, arrogance, the evil way,
And the perverted mouth, I hate.
14 Advice is mine and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, power is mine.
15 By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles,
All who judge rightly.
17 I love those who love me;
And those who diligently seek me will find me.
18 Riches and honor are with me,
Enduring wealth and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold;
And my yield better than choice silver.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness,
In the midst of the paths of justice,
21 To endow those who love me with wealth,
That I may fill their treasuries.
When we think of God filling our treasuries, we should remember Matthew 6:20 NASB – But store up for yourselves treasures – Bible Gateway, that the treasures that matter are those that await us in Heaven. Once we have passed away, it is too late to store up treasures in Heaven.
How do we obtain wisdom?
James 1:5 New American Standard Bible
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Are we wise? The Lord will judge each of us. Therefore, we link to other voter guides, and we encourage voters to contemplate which sources of counsel are most fruitful. Moreover, we encourage others to do the same. Instead of silencing or ignoring those we disagree with, we need to contemplate their advice and pray for the wisdom to judge properly.
